Tim Hudson has become a stalwart in the Atlanta Braves rotation over the years and figures to have a big role once again in 2012. While the 36-year old veteran starter has recovered well since undergoing back surgery in November to repair a herniated disk, he will likely miss at least a few weeks to begin the season.
This is not great news for the Braves, but they should have plenty of pitching depth to hold them over until Hudson returns.

Assuming Hudson does indeed miss a month of action, Julio Teheran should be the likely candidate to fill his spot in the rotation. Atlanta may be able to skip a start or two due to an off day in the schedule, but the team simply won't be able to hide not having their most proven starter at the front of their rotation.
Look for Hudson to continue rehabbing his back in the coming weeks. He may pitch an inning or two in Spring Training, but most of his work will likely be done in either extended Spring Training or with a Minor League affiliate once the regular season begins.
