Brandon Beachy allowed six hits and two earned runs over six innings of work as the Atlanta Braves and the New York Yankees battled to a 5-5 tie in Wednesday's spring training matchup. Beachy is focusing on trying to pitch deeper into games and settled down after some early struggles against the Yankees.
Beachy surrendered one run in the first and two more in the third but retired nine straight over his last three innings of work. One of his goals for the season is to improve his stamina in an effort to go deeper into games.
"I've been going through all spring like it was a long bullpen session, then everything started to come together. I got ahead and I am ready to go now. I learned a lot today."
Offensively both Freddie Freeman and Jason Heyward homered for the Braves and Heyward's tied the game in the ninth. Heyward increased his batting average to .205 on the spring with a couple of hits.
