The Atlanta Braves pencilled in most of their regulars for the Spring Training opener against the Detroit Tigers and recent-acquired Prince Fielder. Despite their A-squad and numerous capable backups playing the final few innings, the Braves recorded just one hit -- a single from backup right fielder Jordan Parraz in the eighth inning -- and drew only four walks.
Mike Minor impressed in his first start of the spring, striking out three batters in two innings. He allowed just one walk, one hit and no runs on the afternoon. Anthony Varvaro gave up a solo-homer in the third inning, and Erik Cordier allowed an insurance run in the ninth.
The Tigers roped out 10 hits but were unable to cash in for most of the afternoon. Doug Fister made the start and looked very impressive, just as he did in the second half of last year.
This game was bound to be sloppy for Atlanta and we can only hope this will not be a continuing trend. The two clubs will square off once again tomorrow at 1:05. Julio Teheran and Randall Delgado will be on the mound for the Braves.
