In eight days, the Atlanta Braves went from the top of the National League East standings all the way to the bottom of it. On Tuesday, the Braves will try to avoid suffering their ninth consecutive loss when they play the St. Louis Cardinals for the second time in as many days.
The Braves (26-24) have averaged 2.5 runs and hit .178 during this skid, striking out 10 or more times in three straight games. The fact that Brian McCann has missed some time due to illness, while Chipper Jones (leg) and Freddie Freeman (vision) are both out, have not helped Atlanta's cause.
Randall Delgado (2-5, 4.53 ERA) will take the mound for the Braves, while Cardinals pitcher Jake Westbrook (4-3, 3.37 ERA) gets the start for St. Louis.
