The Atlanta Braves dropped the series finale against the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday due to some poor efforts from the bullpen and silly decisions from manager Fredi Gonzalez. The Braves led early by a score of 4-0, but Toronto rallied to win 12-4 at Turner Field.
Julio Teheran made the first start of the season in Atlanta and pitched well in the early going, but got roughed up a bit in the fifth. He was puled after just 74 pitches which seemed low, and most everyone watching the game would tell you Gonzalez was premature in pulling his young starter. Teheran worked 4.1 innings and allowed four runs on four hits and a walk, although he was not on the mound when three of those runs came across to score.
Livan Hernandez entered with the bases loaded and one out in the fifth and was awful, allowing six runs to score in the inning. Hernandez, who had not pitched in nearly two weeks, went 1.2 innings and allowed five earned runs to score, ballooning his ERA up to 4.94 for the year.
Cristhian Martinez came in and worked two innings of relief and allowed three runs on six hits. Chad Durbin worked a scoreless eighth.
A frustrating loss, but the Braves have been playing very well lately. They went 6-1 this past week, which was a nice rebound after losing eight in a row about 15 days ago.
