The Atlanta Braves elected to give Brandon Beachy a couple of extra days off as the right hander deals with some minor elbow soreness.

"He had a little sore arm going and we didn't want to take a chance," said Gonzalez, who said it was the elbow specifically. "It's something that flared up on him and we had the days off and we could manipulate the rotation a little bit, just give him a little extra couple days."

Atlanta has juggled its starting rotation of late. Top prospect Julio Teheran was called up on Sunday to give Tim Hudson a few extra days to recover from a sore ankle. Hudson has since declared himself ready to go and will start in Beachy's normal spot on Wednesday.

Beachy still leads the league with a 1.98 ERA but is winless in his last three starts and saw his velocity on his fastball drop considerably last time out.
