With the news that Atlanta Braves pitcher Brandon Beachy will need to undergo Tommy John surgery breaking earlier in the week, there was a somber mood in the Braves clubhouse on Friday.
Beachy, a 25-year old who had been absolutely dominant in 2012, with a 2.00 ERA in 81 innings pitched, will now miss the next 12-18 months after undergoing a procedure that has almost become routine around the game of baseball.
In the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Tommy Hanson sympathized with Beachy while remaining positive about the whole situation:
"It's never fun," Hanson said. "Especially when you see it happen to a guy like Beachy, who works so hard and is such a good guy. It's never fun to watch, because I think we all know at any time that could happen to us, too.
"It sucks. I feel really bad for him, but you know how Beachy is. He'll be fine. He'll work hard and get back. But obviously he wishes he was here, and so did we."
