Brandon Beachy underwent successful ligament replacement surgery in Pensacola, Florida on Thursday and will begin the year long rehab process soon. The surgery was performed by renown orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews. Recovery time for this type of injury is usually right around a full year.
Beachy was just 5-5 on the season but had a sparkling 2.00 ERA. He was leading the Majors holding opposing batters to just a .171 average.
Atlanta recalled Jair Jurrjens to take Beachy's spot in the rotation at least in the short term. Jurrjens will start Friday's series opener against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park. If Jurrjens continues to struggle then Kris Medlen and prospect Julio Teheran are also options for the rotation. The Braves could also opt to dip into the trade market if they feel like they need another veteran arm.
