John Smoltz is having his number retired by the Atlanta Braves this evening at Turner Field. The No. 29 will be unveiled in the left field rafters and will hang above the field for the rest of time, truly reminding everyone just how great of a pitcher he was.
At his Hall of Fame luncheon on Friday afternoon, Smoltzy met a ton of folks, but perhaps no one enjoyed their visit more than Braves first round pick Lucas Sims.
We have a photo of the two meeting after the jump...

Pretty cool. We learned during the week that Sims and his family's favorite player growing up was Smoltz, so you can imagine what this experience was like for the young pitcher.
Get drafted in the first round by your favorite team, sign for $1.6 million AND meet a Hall of Fame pitcher who you idolized as a child? Not a bad week at all.
The Braves will begin the retirement ceremony at 7 p.m. If you're going to the game tonight, you're going to want to get there early if you hope to park anywhere near the stadium.
