Chipper Jones will be making his final appearance in the Major League Baseball All-Star Game Tuesday night and the moment is not lost on any of his National League teammates or American League opponents.
Former teammate and fellow NL All-Star Rafael Furcal had this to say about Jones and his hall of fame career:
"I'm so excited to be here with Chipper's in his last time here. I learned a lot from him in the years I spent in Atlanta. He's one of the best switch-hitters in the game. Great teammate, great player, great hitter. Everything."
American League pitcher Matt Harrison came up in the Braves system before being a part of the trade that brought first baseman Mark Teixera to Atlanta. Harrison says that Jones is the face of the Braves franchise.
"He was pretty much the face of the franchise when I was going through the minor leagues with [the Braves]. He's a great guy and has always been a standup, class-act guy. It was an honor to be around him for the little time I was and to see how he goes about his business. He's been there almost 20 years. It's just unbelievable, to be there that long with one team."
