Mets Vs. Braves: Brian McCann Away For Birth Of Child

Catcher Brian McCann was not in Friday's lineup against the Mets as he and his wife are expecting the birth of their first child, according to Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

The Braves recalled catcher J.C. Boscan from Triple-A Gwinnett.

McCann and his wife, Ashley, visited their doctor over the All-Star break and a decision was made to induce child birth while the Braves were at home. The original due date was next weekend while the team is on the road in Washington.

MLB's paternity list allows players to miss up to three days, but Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said McCann could be back on Saturday if things went well.

According to the AJC, the McCanns are expecting a son and will name him Colt.
