Ben Sheets Impresses Once Again In Rehab Start With Mississippi Braves

Making what might be his final start in the Minor Leagues, Ben Sheets threw 89 pitches for the Mississippi Braves while working 5.2 innings. He allowed two runs to score, only one of which was earned. He surrendered seven hits and no walks, striking out four in the process.

Sheets' velocity was down a tick or two from his first rehab start, but that was to be expected as he prepared to throw in the neighborhood of 90 pitches. His fastball primarily sat around 88-91 and his big curveball continued to break nicely. He only threw a changeup or two, but that should change if he arrives in Atlanta.

It was another big step in the right direction for the 33-year-old righty, and now the Braves will determine if he's ready for the big leagues. There have been talks of bringing him up for Sunday afternoon's start against the Mets, but we likely won't get official word on that until later in the week.
