The Atlanta Braves open a key three-game set in the NL East race in Washington on Monday night, sending Tim Hudson to the mound to take on the Nationals and Jordan Zimmermann.
The Braves open the series five games back of the NL East-leading Nationals as the season entering its final stretch. Atlanta dropped two of three to the Los Angeles Dodgers over the weekend, posting a combined six runs over the course of three games.
The Nationals have won 12 of 15 coming into the meeting, including taking two of three from the New York Mets. Gio Gonzalez's victory on Sunday was his 16th, tied for best in the majors and a new Nationals club record. The Nationals' 75-46 record is also best in the majors.
