The Atlanta Braves and Chipper Jones will make their final trip to New York to begin a three-game series with the Mets. For the Bravos, it'll be business as usual. Pitch well, come up with a key clutch hits, play strong defense and win the series.
For Chipper, or Larry, as Mets fans better know him, it'll be his final visit to a team that defined his career. Braves Country will never forget his heroics against the Mets in the last 1990s and early 2000s, seemingly coming up with the big hit every single time the situation called for one. He named his first son, Shea, after the old Mets stadium.
A restaurant in New York City is even renaming themselves to "Chipper's" this weekend.
Someone recently posed the question on a Mets blog of, "What should the fans do for Chipper during his final game in New York?" and received a ton of feedback. The best answer: boo him, while giving him a standing ovation.
Sounds like a plan to me.
Here are the start times and pitching matchups for the series.
Friday, 7:10 p.m. ET - Paul Maholm (2-3, 3.96 ERA) vs. Jon Niese (10-8, 3.55 ERA)
Saturday, 4:10 p.m. (FOX) - Kris Medlen (7-1, 1.56 ERA) vs. Jeremy Hefner (2-5, 4.52 ERA)
Sunday, 1:10 p.m. - Tommy Hanson (12-8, 4.40 ERA) vs. Chris Young (4-7, 4.48 ERA)
