Most NFL power rankers were likely only expecting to bump the Philadelphia Eagles up a spot or two if they convincingly beat the Washington Redskins on Monday Night Football. But then Michael Vick turned Madden into a trending topic on Twitter, as nobody had any other way to describe what they were looking at. I thought he played more like the snow troll in Ski Free, to be honest. But either way, everybody had to do some serious power re-ranking after that butchering. (Sorry.)
Since, as usual, none of the big names like ESPN, CBS, or NBC have their rankings out yet, let’s work with our fellow early risers. Boston’s WEEI likes the New England Patriots and New York Jets, with the Atlanta Falcons and Philadelphia Eagles behind. Their Falcons note:
The Falcons showed a lot of grit coming back from a 13-point lead late in the fourth quarter. Great teams are able to overcome those types of deficits against worthy opponents. The Falcons proved that they should be in the conversation of "best team in football right now."
NE Patriots Draft, the world’s most specific football website and one we link to every week due to their punctuality, actually ranks the Falcons ahead of the Patriots, one of the first No. 1 rankings we’ve seen for Atlanta this year. NFL News World has the Eagles tops, followed by the Pats and Falcons.
