Brad Childress has been fired as head coach of the Minnesota Vikings after the team's 3-7 start. Losing to the Green Bay Packers 31-3 on Sunday was the last straw. Defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier will take over as interim head coach. Frazier was a popular interview last offseason for various head coaching jobs, partially due to his excellent qualifications and partially due to Rooney Rule patronization.
↵The Packers have now knocked off their second head coach in three weeks. Dallas Cowboys coach Wade Philips lost his job after his team got crushed by Green Bay. With the Pack coming into the Georgia Dome on Sunday, could Mike Smi- no.
↵How does this affect the NFC landscape? Short term, this is good news for the Atlanta Falcons. The Vikings have games left against NFC contenders, with the Chicago Bears, Philadelphia Eagles, and New York Giants to go. If this talented team can get it together for Frazier, they'll be able to add one or two L's to that group. Plus they get to warm up against the Buffalo Bills at home.
