Drew Brees Named SI's Sportsman Of The Year: Does A Curse Come With That?

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees, whose Madden curse wore off more quickly than anyone else's ever has, was named Sports Illustrated's Sportsman of the Year yesterday. Last week's Sports Illustrated cover jinxed Michael Vick into throwing his first interception since before he went in, so a Sportsman of the Year cover should count for about 52 jinxes, according to standard jinx rates.

Don't believe me?

Derek Jeter won the award in 2009, and he's having a hard time finding anyone willing to pay his expected salary. Michael Phelps won in 2008, then didn't win a single gold medal in all of 2009. The year before that? Brett Favre. I rest my case. Oh, and Tiger Woods in 2000. Sometimes the curse is very patient.

Whether it takes every curse in sports combined to bring down Brees, one way or another the Falcons have to get past him at least once more this year if they want to make a Super Bowl run. Suggesting we invoke the Curse of the Honey Bears.
