NFL Week 17, Panthers Vs. Falcons: The Numbers Game, A Carolina-Atlanta Stats-apalooza

Welcome to the pre-game, quick hit, stats-apalooza. This is a broad, statistical overview of the current Atlanta Falcons' opponent. This week, it's the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers will fly 222 miles Southwest to play the Falcons at the Georgia Dome. This game is the second of a possible four straight home games for the Falcons. A win here clinches the NFC's top seed and would assure the Falcons would be playing at home until the Super Bowl. In the meantime though, let's learn a little bit about our guests.

The Panthers are in the middle of their second-worst season as a franchise and worst since 2001, the year before John Fox arrived. Unless they can outscore the Falcons by 34 points, they will finish with their worst point differential in team history. The Panthers also have the 32nd-ranked offense but their defense is ranked a respectable 16th overall.
