Pierre Thomas Injury Puts Entire New Orleans Saints Running Game On Injured Reserve (Almost)

New, 1 comment

A day after top New Orleans Saints running back Chris Ivory went on injured reserve, second-leading back Pierre Thomas is headed for IR as well, the team announced via Twitter.

While it doesn’t mean much for the Saints wild card round game against the Seattle Seahawks, it does raise a few interesting questions for their odds-on divisional round game against the Atlanta Falcons. While Drew Brees and his associates have a good enough passing game to put yardage on either Seattle’s or Atlanta’s secondary, can they do it without the faintest whisp of a running game threat?

Reggie Bush came up big in a playoff game last year, scoring four all-purpose touchdowns against the Arizona Cardinals. But can Bush get that kind of production, or anywhere near it, going as a featured back?

The team also announced the signing of Philadelphia Eagles practice squad RB Joique Bell to take Thomas’ place on the active roster.
