New fullback Mike Cox is listed as the starter for the Atlanta Falcons and will play against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday. The former Georgia Tech product was signed after starting fullback Ovie Mughelli went down with a season ending knee injury against Detroit.
The injury could also mean a change in the role played by reserve running back Jason Snelling who is likely to spend much more time at the fullback position.
You just have to have zoom focus on both positions," Snelling said as the Falcons returned from their bye week and readied to play the Colts on Sunday. "You have to focus on each assignment from both positions. It's something I've been doing for a while.
Mughelli wasn't much of a threat as a ball carrier but had recorded two touchdown receptions this season. Snelling has appeared in six games for the Falcons this season in a reserve role. He has done most of his damage in the passing game recording 12 catches for 89 yards. Cox played in 39 games in three seasons in Kansas City and has 22 career receptions for 125 yards.
