Atlanta Falcons WR Roddy White was on the NFL Network Monday night, in recognition of him being named the No. 24 best player in the league by the ... by the league. Unless the league thinks more highly of Chris Redman than anybody has yet realized, he'll also go down as the highest-ranked Bird.
He was asked what he thinks about rookie WR Julio Jones, for whom the team unloaded a shedload of draft picks:
I've been working with the big guy. He's big. Fast. He's going to be a great player in this league. It's going to be special. It's going to remind you of the Greatest Show on Turf.
When asked about what he thought the first time he got a look at the new guy, White said, "Let's go out and school everybody."
Roddy is a pretty blunt guy, and I've never heard him say anything less than exactly what he means. (Before the 2010 NFL Draft, for instance, he told Tony Gonzalez the team's defense would improve even if it did nothing besides trading away Chris Houston.) So whether Jones winds up being the real deal or not, we can rest assured that at least his counterpart is a believer.
