Could Nnamdi Asomugha Sign With The Bucs? Yes, Yes He Could

"Let's talk Nnamdi Asomugha to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers," says our Bucs blog. How about let's don't and say we did?

When Nnamdi becomes available, he's going to be really expensive. Way, way too expensive for the Atlanta Falcons, in fact, not that anybody should've been waiting by the phone for that one anyway. But the Bucs can afford him. No team in the NFL has as much cap room as Tampa does -- and if the new CBA turns out as expected, they might actually have to sign him.

In a word, that would be awful. Asomugha might be the best player in the NFL. He's definitely in the top five overall and likely among the top two defenders. New York Jets fans like to tout Darrelle Revis' stats as evidence of his supremacy, but Nnamdi doesn't have stats. Quarterbacks are too afraid to throw at him to begin with. A Nnamdi-powered Bucs defense would immediately cancel out any gains Atlanta made by bringing aboard Julio Jones, as either he or Roddy White would be eliminated from the passing game.

The one hope, as Bucs Nation notes: Asomugha isn't a scheme fit for Tampa. If the Bucs decide they'd rather not adapt their defense to his skills, the rest of the division can exhale.
