Free agent acquisition Ray Edwards met with the media for the first time following Saturday's practice and the new Atlanta defensive end looks like he is going to be a perfect fit for the team. When talking about his decision to sign with Atlanta, Edwards referred to himself as the missing piece.
"It was a sigh of relief, knowing that your career is going to continue," Edwards said. "I definitely came to a great team who went 13-3 last year and hasn’t lost any key components. I feel like I was just the missing piece."
Edwards also pointed out during the media session that he and fellow defensive end John Abraham could become a great tandem and make things easier for each other.
Falcons coach Mike Smith is also excited to have Edwards as part of the team and was careful to point out that he wasn't just a pass rusher. Smith referred to Edwards as a good all-around defensive end that is also a very good run defender.
Smith stopped short of calling this team's defense the best he has had during his tenure in Atlanta saying that they still had to prove it on the field. However, the prospects are there and there is little doubt that Edwards acquisition certainly makes the team better.
