According to ProFootballFocus.com, there's a good chance that cornerback Brent Grimes will play for somebody other than the Atlanta Falcons in 2012 due to the fact that he will ask for more money than the Falcons are willing to pay. Grimes was injured in Week 12 and missed four of the final five games of the season.
However, the Falcons were encouraged by the performance of CBs Dominique Franks and Chris Owens down the stretch, and the team will be looking to have the cap flexibility to re-sign some of its other core players. We hear that Grimes, the team's top corner, is likely to price himself out of the team's range.
According to PFF's sources, some members of the Falcons organization were surprised and disappointed that Grimes didn't play in the team's wildcard game against the Giants in New York after they were led to believe that he would suit up. That combined with the impressive play of the team's other cornerbacks down the stretch and Grimes' price tag could be a one-way ticket out of town.
Grimes will be one of the top corners in free agency if the Falcons decide to use their money to sign other players.
