Why all the talk about the Atlanta Falcons drafting a tight end with their first draft pick this year? There's been speculation for quite a while that future Hall of Famer Tony Gonzalez isn't much longer for Atlanta, and Thursday, during a Facebook chat on ESPN's page, Gonzalez announced he'll retire after this season. He's said that before, but he seems to mean it this time.
The video:
The Falcons haven't developed much of a tight end depth chart beyond Gonzalez, though it's hard to say just what kind of shape they're in without him, since he earns the far majority of targets at the position.
Even though he'll have only played four seasons in Atlanta, he'll still be remembered as one of the two or three best tight ends in team history. Whenever it is that he does actually get around to retiring.
