Former Atlanta Falcons middle linebacker Curtis Lofton is still looking to cash in on his free agency, however, so far there hasn't been any takers for his services. The reason for the lack of offers, says Len Pasquarelli of The Sports Xchange, is the soft market for 4-3 linebackers, thus, making Atlanta team officials confident that Lofton could return.
Lofton has drawn interest from division rivals Tampa Bay and New Orleans. But a Bucs official told The Sports Xchange that reports in Atlanta that Lofton holds an offer from the Bucs are only "technically true," and that the ardor for the four-year veteran has cooled a bit in the building.
Meanwhile, the Saints could gain more interest in Lofton if some players are suspended because of the Bounty-Gate situation.
The Saints, who visited with Lofton, could pursue him, especially if incumbent Jonathan Vilma is suspended by the league for his role in the Bountygate scandal. But New Orleans is up against the cap following the addition of defensive tackle Brodrick Bunkley, and would have a difficult time finding space to pigeonhole Lofton as well.
Overall, the experts at Sports Xchange believe Lofton doesn't fit a lot of teams needs and the Falcons are his perfect fit.
