Thomas DeCoud Re-Signing With Atlanta Falcons, According To Report

The Atlanta Falcons have had a busy 18 or so hours after a quiet period, franchising cornerback Brent Grimes and re-signing both tight end Michael Palmer and running back Antone Smith. The latest, as reported by Adam Schefter, is the re-signing of free safety Thomas DeCoud.

DeCoud had four interceptions and 73 tackles last year, ranking him highly among all safeties in both categories. He often appeared to miscommunicate with cornerback Dunta Robinson, though it's not entirely clear whose fault that was. New defensive coordinator Mike Nolan will be charged with getting the whole defense on the same page.

A four-year veteran, DeCoud is part of the 2008 draft class that might be remembered as the best in Falcons history. Fellow 2008 draftee Kroy Biermann is also reportedly set to earn a second contract in Atlanta, while quarterback Matt Ryan is negotiating an extension.
