More: Five players who could help the Falcons pass rush
It was reported on Tuesday that the Atlanta Falcons had come to terms on a contract extension with their starting safety Thomas DeCoud.
Adam Schefter of ESPN took to Twitter on Tuesday afternoon to announce the details of the deal. The contract will apparently keep DeCoud in Atlanta for the next five seasons. The deal would have a base worth of $17.5 million, including $4 million dollars in guaranteed money.
This seems like a good deal for the Falcons, who will be able to retain a key component of their defense and a valuable part of their secondary without needing to break the bank. If the deal really does include a $4 million guarantee, that would seem to protect Atlanta in any potential worst-case scenario with DeCoud.
DeCoud had four interceptions and 73 tackles last year, ranking him highly among all safeties in both categories.
