As multiple reports indicate that Asante Samuel is being traded from the Philadelphia Eagles to the Atlanta Falcons for a late-round pick, it's been understood that the Falcons would rework the remainder of Samuel's contact, which currently calls for $21.5 million over the next two seasons.
The NFL Network's Jason La Canfora is reporting that the Falcons won't extend Samuel's current deal, but merely alter the payments:
Samuel's new deal would not add additional years to his contract but will alter his remaining salaries. He's excited for deal to be done

The addition of Samuel will fill a need the Falcons identified headed into the NFL Draft, but leave Atlanta with only five picks, if reports that Samuel will go for one late-rounder are true.
