With the Philadelphia Eagles and the Atlanta Falcons agreeing on an Asante Samuel trade, Atlanta now has three legitimate NFL starters in their secondary with Brent Grimes and Dunta Robinson in the fold. ESPN's Pat Yasinskas has the report on how the Samuel trade improves the Falcon's secondary:
New defensive coordinator Mike Nolan has talked extensively about how the league's movement toward more passing has made it essential to have three good cornerbacks. They all will get significant playing time. The Falcons had problems when they went to their nickel package last year.
Over his career, Asante Samuel has compiled 368 tackles with 45 interceptions and 6 forced fumbles. Many feel that he is the perfect for Atlanta and Samuel himself said that he was happy with the trade after it was announced today.
