2012 Falcons Offseason: Will Peter Konz Start As A Rookie?

Over at ESPN.com, John Clayton lists the top ten position battles between rookies and veterans this off-season, with Atlanta Falcons rookie offensive lineman Peter Konz making the list:

10. Falcons second-round pick Peter Konz vs. right guards Mike Johnson, Vince Manuwai and others: Konz, considered the best center in the draft, is viewed as Atlanta's center of the future. The Falcons have veteran Todd McClure on a one-year contract, so Konz can fight his way into a starting job at right guard.

The Falcons drafted Konz, a 6'5 315 center from Wisconsin, with the No. 55 pick in the second round.

The Badgers, who run a traditional pro-style offense built behind a road-grading offensive line, have been one of the premier factories for NFL lineman over the last decade.

Centers are almost never taken in the first round, so Konz's second-round selection indicates how highly he was viewed by the league coming into the draft.
