2012 Falcons OTAs: Kick, Punt Returner Job Up For Grabs

One of the available jobs up for grabs as OTAs open for the Falcons is the punt/kick returner role that was vacated after Eric Weems signed a three-year deal with the Chicago Bears. Atlanta signed several undrafted free agents that could compete for the job but head coach Mike Smith indicated following rookie camp that the job would likely be filled by someone already on the roster.

Those players on the roster currently that have previous experience include Harry Douglas, Dominique Franks and Brent Grimes. Back-up running back Jacquizz Rodgers could also see his name thrown into the ring.

Douglas performed well in the role during his rookie 2008 season before a knee injury sidelined him the next season. Franks held the return job while in college and got some work there during the preseason last season. James Rodgers appears to be the top candidate among the undrafted free agent crop.
