2012 Falcons Offseason: Healthy Sam Baker Would Be A Plus For Offensive Line

Entering the offseason it was debatable whether or not Sam Baker would still be a part of the Atlanta Falcons. Yet a good offseason and the return of good health has him back in the team's plans for the offensive line.

Baker struggled in 2011 with a back injury and eventually lost his starting job to Will Svitek. After an additional procedure on his back Baker is ready to put last season firmly in the rear view mirror.

"Man, it was just tough," Baker said. "Just to come out after the lockout and not knowing where your body was at, and then just kind of getting thrown into it. I had a couple of terrible games early on, and that really didn't help either. Then, having some back issues again, it was really, mentally, it was just a roller coaster."

The left tackle position again looks like it is Baker's to lose as the Falcons have few options behind him other than Svitek who looks like plan B at this point. The team drafted Lamar Holmes in the third round but he has yet to practice this offseason due to a foot injury and won't be on the field until training camp starts.
