Mughelli played five seasons with the Falcons but a knee injury limited him to just seven games during the 2011 season. The veteran fullback was a salary cap casualty in May when he was cut by the Falcons. Mughelli's contract with the Falcons would have paid him $3 million for the 2012 season.
2012 draft pick Bradie Ewing is expected to compete for the fullback job in 2012 after being selected by the team in the 5th round out of Wisconsin. Jason Snelling could also see some time at the position in 2012.
