Zach Randolph comes back from the locker room and finds his Memphis Grizzlies team down eight. The Atlanta Hawks on the other hand look like poetry in motion, putting a 30-spot up on the Grizz in the first 12 minutes.
Perhaps the biggest thing about Atlanta's first quarter of the season is that they're doing it without a great night from Joe Johnson. Johnson is just 1-of-4 from the field. The rest of the team is shooting 71-percent from the field (12-for-17) with even Josh Smith getting into the action with a three-pointer.
It seems like this motion offense is even getting Smith looks from the perimeter. You do the math on whether this is a good or a bad thing. J-Smoove is a much better player in the post. Mike Bibby leads the club with seven points and Smith, Maurice Evans and Marvin Williams have five each. Atlanta has dished seven assists.
However, things aren't all great for the Hawks, who turned the ball over eight times in the first quarter. They could be in a bit of trouble if they can't control the turnovers and they cool down from the field.
