Here’s something I probably haven’t seen in three years from the Hawks. On consecutive possessions, Joe Johnson cut to the inside, without the ball, and received an open pass right under the basket for the score. Okay, yes, that’s really bad defense, but it’s an offense that creates FOR Johnson rather than exclusively THROUGH Johnson. And JJ just has never done a lot of his business on the inside. The first look was kind of amazing, as Zaza heaved an alley-oop for JJ cutting across the lane for an easy two. The second one allowed Josh Smith to show off his understated passing ability, splitting the pressure with the pass.
The Hawks lead 47-35 with 5:40 left in the second quarter.
