AJC Hawks beat writer Michael Cunningham updated the status of injured Hawks small forward Marvin Williams. It appears that there isn't too much new to report other than Marvin is doing some work on the side but still has been unable to participate in practice.
"I haven't gotten any indication of when to expect him back," Hawks Coach Larry Drew said.
Williams injured his lower back on December 29th when he flipped over Warriors forward Lou Amundson while attempting to defend a layup. Williams is averaging 11 points per game while shooting 48% from the floor. Williams is also grabbing 4.8 rebounds per contest. His absence removes arguably Atlanta's best perimeter defender from the lineup.
It has been a tough season for Marvin Williams physically thus far. He missed four games earlier this season after suffering a bruised knee against Detroit before being sidelined for the last six contests with the back injury. The Hawks have gone 6-4 in the games Williams has missed due to injury.
To help bolster their depth at the Small Forward position, Atlanta signed Damien Wilkins to a ten-day contract on January 8th.
