In the final minute of the Atlanta Hawks win over the New York Knicks, Marvin Williams got into it with Knicks forward Shawne Williams. Both players were eventually ejected, with Marvin storming off the court immediately and Shawne lingering around to hear the verdict.
From the looks of it, Shawne bumped into Marvin on their way back up the court, which set Marvin off for some reason. The Hawks forward struck with a shove to the back, and after a few seconds of tension it was time for some crowd-pleasin’ skinny-man mayhem. Josh Smith and Amare Stoudemire quickly stepped between the combatants Williams, and when Smoove is the coolest head in the situation, trap has indeed gone Williams ham.
This round goes to Shawne, as he actually appears to have connected once, while Marvin broke out the Bart Simpson if-you-get-hit-it’s-your-own-fault offense. The Philips Arena crowd was delighted with every minute of it — at least the Hawks went out with a bang after letting this one become more of a game than it needed to be.
No word yet on possible suspensions for either player, but punches tend to equal all-but automatic missed time.
