After obtaining clearance from FIBA, former Pittsburgh point guard Brad Wanamaker has been signed by the Atlanta Hawks to a training camp deal. Currently Atlanta has only one healthy true point guard on its roster in Jeff Teague after Kirk Hinrich had offseason shoulder surgery and will miss the start of the season. That leaves Wanamaker along with D-Leaguer Donald Sloan and second year player Pape Sy as those currently on the training camp roster vying for time as the back up point guard.
Another option for the point guard position could be the newly acquired Tracy McGrady who played some point for the Detroit Pistons last season. The Hawks are reportedly still looking for a veteran point guard to add to the roster.
