Things just went from bad to worse for the Atlanta Hawks, who lost one of their biggest stars in Denver.
Josh Smith is out for the second half of the Hawks' game against the Denver Nuggets on Monday night with a strained right MCL injury. He will be reevaluated when the team returns to Atlanta on Tuesday.
The Atlanta forward sustained the injury when he collided with the Nuggets' J.R. Smith early in the second quarter. Initial reports out of the Pepsi Center was that the Atlanta star was going to be reevaluated at the break.
However, with his team lagging a bit on the court, Smoove returned to action with 2:34 left in the quarter. He was welcomed back into the game with a foul, connected on a pair of free throws and talked to the Atlanta's television crew at the break.
When the team reemerged after the intermission, Josh Smith was not in the Atlanta lineup. Atlanta's TV crew announced that he was done for the night, but AJC beatwriter Michael Cunningham tweeted that J-Smoove's return is questionable.
Somehow, I doubt we'll see more of Josh Smith tonight on the court. Obviously, this is not a good development for the Hawks.Once we know more, we will let you know.
