Miami Heat Make Room For Mike Bibby, Release Carlos Arroyo

It's looking more and more like Mike Bibby will be taking his services to South Beach.

The Miami Heat waived backup PG Carlos Arroyo on Tuesday, paving the way to add Bibby to the fold once they are permitted to do so under league rules.

In fact, many players on the Heat including LeBron James, Mario Chalmers and Dwyane Wade expect to have Bibby starting at point as early as Wednesday. Miami takes on the Orlando Magic on Thursday.

The former Atlanta Hawks point guard was traded to the Washington Wizards in a trade deadline deal that landed Kirk Hinrich and Hilton Armstrong in the ATL. He played a few games with the Wizards, but wasn't interested in spending any more time with a team that's destined for the NBA Lottery.

Instead, Bibby reportedly gave up the final year of his contract -- valued at $6.2 million in order to make a run at a championship.

Bibby, who averaged 9.4 points and 3.6 assists in 56 games with the Hawks this season, could eventually supplant Chalmers as the Heat starter at point guard. Miami would be the fifth franchise for Bibby, who also spent time with the Vancouver Grizzlies, the Sacramento Kings, the Wizards and the Hawks.
