The Atlanta Dream begin a home and home set with the Indiana Fever in what could potentially be a playoff preview if the WNBA's Eastern Conference standings remain as they are now. The Dream are the fourth seed in the East with a 14-13 record, 1.5 games in front of fifth place Chicago, and 1.5 games behind third place New York. Indiana at 19-8, holds the No. 1 seed in the East and the second best record in the league behind Minnesota.
The Fever come into tonight's game playing well having won eight of their last ten and have been dominant at home where they have gone 12-2 on the season. After starting the season 3-9, Atlanta has played its best basketball of late but still holds only a .500 record on the road.
Atlanta is the third best team in the WNBA at scoring the basketball averaging over 81 points a game, the problem has come on the defensive end of the floor where Atlanta is also allowing over 81 points a game. Angel McCoughtry is second in the WNBA in scoring averaging 20.5 points a game and is a key ingredient in Atlanta's offensive attack. Indiana doesn't have the offensive firepower that Atlanta has averaging 77 points but is the second best defensive team in the league allowing only 71 points per game.
The Dream won the only previous meeting between the two clubs 84-74 back on July 19 at Philips Arena. In addition to this home and home series, Atlanta will play the Fever again in the season finale on Sept 11 and then again possibly in the first round of the playoffs.
