2012 NBA Standings Update: Hawks Now In 3-Way Tie For Fourth

The Hawks have clinched a playoff spot, but now the focus turns to earning home-court advantage in the first round.

Presswire

The Atlanta Hawks clinched a playoff berth with Monday night's win in Toronto, so now the focus turns toward home-court advantage in the first round.

With Atlanta's and Orlando's wins Monday, the Hawks, Magic and Boston Celtics are tied for fourth place in the Eastern Conference standings at 36-25. The Celtics hold the tiebreaker.

The Miami Heat have already clinched the Southeast Division title, but are 2 1/2 games behind the Chicago Bulls for the top spot in the Eastern Conference. The Indiana Pacers are safely in third place, three games up on the three teams tied for fourth place. Behind that, the New York Knicks and Philadelphia 76ers are tied for seventh place in the conference. The only team outside the current playoff picture in the East that has a chance is the Milwaukee Bucks, who are two games behind the Knicks and Sixers.

After hosting the Pistons, the Hawks host the Celtics on Friday in a huge game for standing in the conference. After the Detroit game, Atlanta finishes the season against four teams currently in the playoffs, so the road ahead will be tough.
