With the fourth-best record in the Eastern Conference and just nine games remaining on the schedule, the Atlanta Hawks are all but certain to make the NBA playoffs.
What is slightly less clear is where they will end up in the standings.
They currently stand seven games back of Miami in the Southeast Division, virtually eliminating the possibility of winning it. They also stand a half game up on the Orlando Magic for the fifth seed (despite having a better record than Boston, Atlanta remains behind them in the standings because the Celtics lead their division), and a half game behind Indiana for the third seed in the conference.
So what does it all mean? The Hawks have a range of seeding from three to six, with a likely first round opponent from the trio of Boston, Indiana and Orlando.
