If not for an ACL injury his senior year of high school Quincy Miller would likely be being talked about as a lottery pick. Instead he is seeing his stock slip to late in the first round and needs some solid workouts to prove to teams that he is fully recovered from his injury.
Miller recently worked out for the Hawks and by all accounts was moving better than he did during his only season at Baylor. Another area of concern is his weight and what position Miller will play in the NBA. Miller says his weight is up to 225 pounds but he could be between the small forward and power forward positions in a lot of team's eyes. If Miller's knee is not healthy then he may not possess the quickness required to play the small forward position. Yet he certainly doesn't have the size or strength currently to man the power forward position.
Hawks coach Larry Drew wonders what kind of effects adding weight to Miller would have on his game.
"I don't know what a bigger frame will do for him. Will it take anything away from him? Certainly he is going to have to get stronger moving to this next level and playing the position he plays. He certainly has to get stronger. From what I've seen of him, his wiry frame, that's kind of who he is. You can really see the potential of this kid. He's a good mid-range shooter, very skilled around the basket and he has length. He handles the ball good enough. He's getting better at it. He's a talented guy."
Atlanta has the 23rd pick in the upcoming draft and a player like Miller would be appealing given his high upside if the fears about his health can be satisfied.
