2012 NBA Draft: Danny Ferry Discusses John Jenkins, Draft Process

Danny Ferry met with several members of the media following the selections of John Jenkins and Mike Scott by the Atlanta Hawks in the 2012 NBA Draft. Ferry described the whirlwind of preparation that he went through having only been named general manager four days prior to the draft.

Ferry thinks that the Hawks got a solid offensive weapon in the draft in John Jenkins and was very happy when he was available with the 23rd pick.

"I like people that can shoot and he can definitely do that. He plays hard, he's a competitive kid really tries to play the right way and is one of those guys that when he is on the court he'll make shots to almost make it like a 4-on-4 game because you can't leave him. He's got decent length for his size and I was encouraged that he was there when we picked him."

Everyone recognizes Jenkins offensive prowess but many question whether he has the athleticism to be successful defensively in the NBA. Ferry didn't seem to be worried about that and cited Jenkins' competitiveness as a strength that can be utilized defensively.

"He cares and if we have a good system with him where we play together as a five man defense I think he can do a good job. I think he will play smart and compete every play and again you'll have to go down to the other end and chase him around because he is a dangerous weapon on the offensive end."
