The Atlanta Journal Constitution cites a source with knowledge of the Atlanta Hawks' plans said Ferry and the Nets are involved in trade discussions involving Joe Johnson who also says the team is open to trading Josh Smith, who expressed his desire to be traded to a bigger market before Danny Ferry was hired in June.
Smith's contract expires at the end of the upcoming season, and since he's already expressed a desire to leave, the Hawks would likely lose him for nothing if they don't trade him before it comes to that.
Smith told the Hawks he wants to be traded to a franchise he considers to be more committed to winning a championship.
"I have talked to Josh, and we agreed to get together," Ferry told AJC. "It was a positive conversation."
