The summer leagues are good opportunities for D-league and undrafted players to make their marks, and two Hawks players did just that.
Two of Atlanta's summer league players have been named to Scott Schroeder's Summer League All-Free Agent Team: point guard Brad Wanamaker and center Keith Benson.
Here is some of what Schroeder had to say about Wanamaker:
After being the de facto third-string point guard for the Austin Toros this past season (behind Justin Dentmon and Squeaky Johnson), Wanamaker looked pretty good down in Vegas despite rather humble averages of 6.8 points and 4.2 assists in 18 minutes of action.
As for Benson:
Kito Benson was lethargic throughout his rookie season in the D-League after not being able to make good as a second round pick by the Atlanta Hawks last season due to the Ivan Johnson experience. Benson looked much better in Vegas, though, as he was aggressive en route to 13.2 points and six rebounds per contest. If he'd have played the way in the D-League like he did in Vegas, he wouldn't have had to worry about entering Summer League as a free agent hopeful.
