NBA Offseason: Hawks Send Willie Green To Clippers In Sign-And-Trade

The Atlanta Hawks have traded Willie Green to the Los Angeles Clippers in a sign-and-trade deal for the rights to Sofoklis Schortsanitis. The move also creates a trade exception for the Hawks.

Schortsanitis was drafted with the 34th pick of the 2003 draft by the Clippers. He is 27 years old and is listed at 6-foot-10, 345 pounds. Schortsanitis played this season with Panathinaikos and previously has played with Olympiacos, Maccabi Tel Aviv as well as the Greek National team.

The beauty of this deal is that Ferry turned a free agent that the team had no intention in re-signing into a trade exception which adds flexibility down the road. Since taking over as general manager, Ferry has focused on gaining long term flexibility for his roster.
