Fairly flat second period from both teams. The Thrashers failed to convert on two full powerplays called on the Lightning, and the Bolts didn’t convert on Freddy Modin’s interference call. The lone goal of the period came 14:18 in, when Ondrej Pavelec channeling his inner Johan Hedberg. The puck was cleared to the Thrashers zone, and Pavelec left his crease to play it. When he saw left winger Sean Bergenheim approaching he scooted back to his net, leaving the puck in play. He then tried to poke-check the puck away from Bergenheim on the forward’s approach, didn’t get the puck fully away, and Bergenheim pushed it behind Pavs to knot the score at one.
The Thrashers will begin the third period with a little under two minutes left on a powerplay. Ryan Malone got called with seven seconds left in the period on a holding call.
Most surprisingly is the fact that Steven Stamkos has been held to just one shot on goal. Dominik Moore leads with five, and Lecavalier, and Bergenheim each have four. Overall the Lightning are leading the Thrashers in shots 26-20, and in scoring chances 17-11. The Thrashers need to take control of the third period, because the next goal might be the last in the game.
